Says: Saw them in 1978/9 at the Anson rooms Bristol Uni, still the best gig i've been part of. They were supported by Gardez Darx? who played a jazz/funk based set everybody had expected to see one or more of the Stranglers who were supposedly interested in The pop group supporting them or producing. I had vinyl copies of Y and she is beyond......... when I went to Uni in 1980, they failed to last the pace or became too attractive to a third party and I have often trawled through Plastic wax in brisol in search of replacements. If anyone knows of Y on CD and how to get it let me know martyn.boot@tesco.net

Says: basically the same question we all want to know; "when are the pop group lps gonna be re-mastered for cd, so that we can all enjoy them ( and not just the bastards that keep outbidding me on e-bay for overpriced import versions!)?.So come on, who ever has the master tapes, reissue them tomorrow, after all every other band in the history of recorded music seems to get properly reissued, so why not the pop group? is this some kind of conspiricy? " how much longer do we tolerate mass deletion!?!"

Says: re the jap import reissues of "y",cheers, yeah i know about these and they are not cheap, and that is my point, why are they only available as imports? i mean somebody in england is fucking up big-time with this.Listen, whoever has those mastertapes, digitally remaster and reissue them, with extra tracks, liner notes all original art work etc...( you know like a proper reissue, like what everone else does!)now!!!.This is the right time, everyweek there is some band or other claiming them as an influence, and at the moment they are getting a lot of press attention in the form of recommened cds for people to buy, but guess what?... they cant, because the only one of their lps that is available is as an expensive jap import! ha! ha! ha! what a missed chance

It's called Society Is A Carnivorous Flower. I think the title is from a cyberpunk book by Richard Kadrey called Metrophage. If anyone has any unreleased Nectarine No. 9, feel free to drop me a line.

Says: hi, nice to see someone out there still remembers the pop group. nice site. I think i may be able to help you a bit, have most glaxo babies and pop group stuff on vinyl, plus some bits of other bristol bands of that time including angelo bruschini who plays with massive attack circa 1978! also somewhere in my attic there is a box of photos, from around 1977-80 as i recall of pop group playing and glaxos just hanging out plus lots of other bristol bands, and pics of well known bands like siouxsie, the damned, adam ant. if you are interested give me a shout . i wont part with any of it, but if i can get hold of a scanner will happily scan pics, sleeves etc. and copy any tracks you are missing.(it may take a while!!) unfortunately i lost touch with them all around 1981. so found your site whilst searching web to see what they are all up to now

Says: i have to agree about the remastered & re-issue idea. Someone (Rough Trade maybe...since they released 2 the albums) should release a Compleate Recored Works of The Pop Group box set. cd 1-Y cd 2-For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? cd 3-We Are Time cd 4-She Is Beyond Good & Evil/We Are All Prostitutes/Where Theres a Will singles w/the b-sides simple really. or they could bump it too 5/6cd and have the singles on seperate cds (the split single w/the Slits(Where Theres a Will...) should also contain The Slits song). that would be fantastic...its is a Crime that these albums are not more widley available...if they dont anytime soon...then i may have to go about and do it myself....but i dont have the experience & know how right now so...you might have to wait a few years.... i'll stop rambling now....Long Live The Pop Group!

I actually once met a guy when he replied to an ad i put on a local music magazine when trying to locate their singles (thet was 1984!). Well I haven't got much to add. Maybe this will interest you: I've got an album by Mark Springer (Springer: Piano / Illuminated jams 46 / released in 1984). It's only Mark playing the piano. On the back cover it says thanx to Sean Oliver. That's it. I'm also a big fan of Pigbag and Rip Rig & Panic and i appreciate you put a lot of stuff on them in your site. Well, thanx again for the site. Bye . Have fun... Pavlos

Says: Nice site. Good to see someone out there still keeping the faith! First saw the very young Pop Group supporting Johnny Thunders Heartbreakers in October 77 if memory serves. Saw them again Feb 78 at the Anson rooms, supported by Linton Kwesi Johnson. They blew my mind both times. Many years and thousands of gigs later its still some of the best live music I've ever experienced. What's hard to fathom now is that these guys were about 17 at the time! Anyway must go, but I'll be back! Just one thing, first glance at the site, I haven't noticed any reference to RR+Ps first 7 inch single. Go go go this is it/The ultimate in fun is going to the disco with my baby.

I saw the Pop Group supporting Pere Ubu in Paris at the end of the 70's, it was incredible, pure mania... Mark Stewart is so tall and the ceiling was so low, he spent the show protecting his head and screaming! As I'd like to give you something in return, I have a Glaxo Babies SP, "Christine Keeler", that I didn't see in the offspring section, so if you want a cover scan or mp3 of the single, just let me know...

Says: I'll never forget hearing The Pop Group for the first time, much as many people claim to never have forgotten where they were when JF Kennedy died I imagine. The beauty of the band is the perfect balance between being challenging and tuneful. 'We are Time' is my own favourite, although 'Don't call me Pain' is also very strong. I had given up finding anything on the net about this band years ago, and just tried again on the off-chance. Thanks for setting it up.

Says: Nice to see so much interest in such an influential band. Y'know folks, with the current interest in "post punk" (hate that phrase) somebody with more than an inch of brain might have the foresight to reissue the Pop Group properly. A nice box set would do for me too. The only CD that I have seen is the (now deleted I'm informed....cheers Darren) "We are all Prostitutes" on Radar. C'mon! Somebody do this band a favour and give them the reissue job that they deserve and that the rest of us are gasping for. Why should we have to fuck around with expensive Japanese imports. Personally I refuse to go down that road. Somebody out there has the power to do this band justice......You know who you are. On a lighter note......the recent Rough trade compilation "Post Punk" has "Stretch" by Maximum Joy contained on it

Says: Hey hey. This is a great site. I'm a Punk/Post-Punk/New Wave afficionado and since last year, I've been getting into a lot of the cult heroes of the post-punk era (Slits, Gang of 4, Au Pairs, etc.). I must say, though, The Pop Group has been the most interesting. In fact, they're one of the greatest bands I've ever heard. They don't make groups like this anymore, which is a shame. Everything now is so watered down, and devoid of intelligence or depth. The Pop Group were politically pissed off and had something to say about it. They also had something that I truly loved....THE FUNK!!! They threw down some of the funkiest jams to come out of Bristol. There's absolutely nothing like "We Are All Prostitutes" or "She is Beyond Good & Evil". They had the grooves to make me move. Maybe I'm just rambling on, but these guys were too cool. I wish they'd reunite, especially in an era of George Bush and Tony Blair.

It's no information about these tracks, but i think: 1.Featuring Bruce Smith on track 9 & 12,Mark Stewart on track 10 2.Outtakes from sessions in '80,not new recordings If you're a fan of THE POP GROUP or Mark Stewart, you must get it & play loud!
